Magic Jack on WHS
If you are using Remote Desktop Connection on a Vista Service Pack 1 Computer edit the shortcut to add /admin to the shortcut, so it looks like this,
%systemroot%\system32\mstsc.exe /admin
If you are using XP or a non Vista Service Pack 1 OS edit it to look like this,
%systemroot%\system32\mstsc.exe /console
on the first screen that displays click on Options >>
Click on the "Local Resources" (tab)
Under the "Remote computer sound" set it to "Leave at remote computer"
Click Connect
Log onto your WHS.
Click on | Start (menu) | Control Panel | Sound and Audio Devices |
You should now be able to select a local audio device. Or you may need to uninstall and reinstall your audio device.
If this helps please mark this as the solution.
Thanks
Additional information if you are using a MediaSmart Server, you'll need to go to http://java.com/en/ and install the free Java update, once it is installed you can then access http://www.magicjack.com/site/magicfix.html to test your system.

Streaming problems with Zune
Apparently I may have been having this problem.
http://www.zune.net/en-us/support/usersguide/sharing/mediasharingfaq.htm#slideshow
Why doesn't media from my network share play on my Xbox 360 console?
If you added a network share to the monitored folders list in the Zune software, the files might not play on your Xbox 360 console. This problem is most likely related to access permissions.
The Zune software uses Zune Network Sharing Service (Zune NSS) to share media. Zune NSS runs under the Network Service account rather than your user account. Therefore, the remote network share may not allow Zune NSS to access the files.
To fix this problem, modify Zune NSS to run under your user account, which will give it the same access you have to the network share.
This change is not recommended if multiple user accounts on the same computer are sharing media from the Zune software, because there is only one Zune NSS for all users on a computer.
Change Zune NSS access
- On your computer, click Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. If you are running Windows Vista, you can see Administrative Tools in the Classic View of Control Panel.
- Right-click Zune Network Sharing Service, then click Properties.
- Click the Log On tab, then type your user name and password in the boxes.
- Restart the service.

Batch encoding from .Tivo to WMV
Here are 2 programs I am trying out:
Any Video Converter
I found that this program only converts files to MP4 so it's not ideal.

AutoMKV
I've used AutoMKV before, but don't like it because in Vista you need to turn off DEP protection.

NIM 100s for fast MOCA networking
get the most benefit you need to use the 5GHZ band. I had already bought a cordless phone system on the 5GHZ band so that I wouldn't interfere with my 2.4GH network! I tried using Netgear powerline adapters, but it was actually significantly worse than Wireless G.
My solution finally came in the form of MOCA. I had heard about the technology through your show and others, but had not actually seen it in a product. Evidently Verizon is using the technology to deploy Fios. They started using a box from Motorolla called the NIM-100. My understanding is that they are no longer using the box, because the technology is now built into the set-top boxes. I bought two NIM-100s from eBay for about $100. They work fantastic! The speed is off the charts, and I have no more issues. The set-up is completely plug and play. The only downside is that there is no support for these things other than what you can find on the Internet. Also, they run pretty hot, which doesn't matter much to me but could be an issue for some.
